1. Legal Secretary
The Charitable Law Section performs several functions including: regulating Ohio’s charitable sector; investigating suspected charitable solicitation fraud and misappropriation of charitable funds; protecting and overseeing the proper administration of charitable trusts and associated entities conducting business in Ohio; ensuring that organizations comply with common law fiduciary duties,
the Charitable Trust Act (R.C. § 109) and the Charitable Organizations Act (R.C. § 1716); and licensing and regulating charitable gaming (bingo) (R.C. § 2915). The Charitable Law Section has civil authority to pursue actions against individuals or organizations that violate applicable laws, however, on an as needed basis, individuals in the section may occasionally assist internal or external law enforcement entities with criminal matters.

What You’ll Do:
The Office of the Ohio Attorney General is currently seeking a motivated and hard-working individual for a Legal Secretary within our Charitable Law section. This talented individual will provide secretarial support while working in a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will perform a variety of clerical, administrative and legal support tasks for attorneys and other office staff. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule.
There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is 30 E Broad St., Columbus, OH.
The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs highly confidential legal secretarial work for office attorneys;
- Physically and electronically files briefs, motions and other documents in state and federal court;
- Performs litigation support (e.g., preparation of exhibits, table of contents, table of authorities);
- From rough written or electronic instructions, produces typed copy of legal documents, confidential materials and correspondence (e.g., briefs, depositions, pleadings, letters, reports, tables, appendices, certificates of service) using Microsoft Office and other software applications;
- Proofreads and corrects all materials prior to review by attorneys;
- Composes or independently answers correspondence (i.e., correspondence of a routine nature which does not require interpretation of the policies or legal issues) to clients, staff or general public;
- Schedules meetings/appointments;
- Scans and processes mail for the section; and
- Answers main phone line within the section

Qualifications
6 months’ work experience performing legal secretary duties in a law firm or legal setting; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Or completion of Associate’s degree in secretarial/administrative professional science or closely related field from an accredited career school or community college; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Or completion of Associate core coursework to qualify for a secretary/administrative assistant diploma/certificate or closely related field from an accredited career school or community college; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Or completion of Bachelor’s degree or higher in any related field; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
Preferred qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook);
- Working knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code and other relevant statutes and law;
- Familiarity with briefs or other pleadings prepared for administrative hearings and state and federal trial and appellate courts and the Ohio Supreme Court

2. Legal Fellow (2-year appointment)
This role will provide a wide range of support to the legal department of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nationwide Arena, including for matters related to contracts, intellectual property, data and privacy, nonprofits, liability, governmental filings, and human resources.
This two-year salaried appointment (full-time, at-will, benefit eligible) for a 2024 Law School graduate is intended to be a comprehensive, hands-on experience in which the fellow receives a first-hand look at how a professional sports team and entertainment venue functions, and the day-to-day issues and obstacles that must be navigated by in-house counsel.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Draft and review a variety of transactional agreements, including but not limited to corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and premium seating licenses, sweepstakes and contests rules, software and other service agreements, NDAs, publicity waivers, liability releases, etc.
- Assist with certain human resources and employment matters, including immigration and employment contracts.
- Support management of intellectual property portfolio of the Club, including registration and defense of trademarks, licensing, ownership and use of data, etc.
- Assist with charitable foundation work, including completing annual filings and supporting governance obligations.
- Secure necessary permits, licenses and registrations, including as required for federal, state, county and city compliance.
- Perform basic legal research and writing, including memoranda and briefing.
- Perform necessary administrative tasks including complying with filing guidelines and instructions, document retention and destruction, scheduling meetings, expense reporting, scanning/copying, etc.
- Education and/or Experience
- Law degree from an accredited university; Ohio Bar Exam preferred (exceptions will be made for strongest candidates); outstanding law school activity record: law review, appellate moot court and/or
- leadership positions within organizations or publications; experience in contract law, general business law, intellectual property or other related legal industries.
